We are a non-profit organisation whose aim is to improve emergency assistance and rescue services in Germany. We have been committed to this since 1969.
We have already created the basic conditions for modern emergency assistance. However, constant improvements are needed over time. We see this as our duty and are driving further improvement with our numerous projects and initiatives.
OUR FOUNDATION HISTORY
A tragic accident and the avoidable death of eight-year-old Björn Steiger was the reason for setting up the Björn Steiger Stiftung. He died because there was no functioning rescue service in Germany at that time.
In 2019, the Björn Steiger Stiftung was able to look back on 50 years of commitment to saving lives. The introduction of the rescue service, BOS radio in the rescue service, roadside emergency telephones, air rescue, 24-hour emergency doctor system - the Björn Steiger Stiftung has initiated all of this and much more.
50 YEARS OF THE EMERGENCY TELEPHONE NUMBERS 110/112
Every child today knows the emergency numbers 110/112. And we know that: If we dial the emergency number, we are sure to get help. But a reliable emergency call was not always a matter of course. In fact, the standardised, nationwide emergency number has only existed since 1973.
